Munich, March 3, 2026 – With BATTERYSPECT-3D, Automation W+R GmbH presents a turnkey solution that for the first time enables complete inline surface inspection and geometry measurement of automotive high-voltage batteries in a single system. The system is part of the LINESPECT® product group and brings measuring room precision directly to the production line.
BATTERYSPECT-3D shifts all relevant inspection and measurement processes into the ongoing manufacturing process. With scanning speeds of up to 400 mm/s, more than 1,000 geometry features are inspected in less than a minute – including weld seams, cell positions, height information and surface deviations from insulation layers.
Non-contact laser scanners generate high-resolution 3D point clouds, which are evaluated by in-house software and algorithms. Even the smallest deviations such as pores or cavities are reliably detected and documented.
“We combine maximum measurement accuracy with minimal space requirements and complete integration into the line,” explains Michael Zinßer, Head of Engineering at Automation W+R.
Inline measurement eliminates handling, waiting and transfer times. The system enables immediate good/bad evaluation in the process, thus increasing throughput and process stability.
All test results are fully documented and transferred to higher-level systems (e.g. MES) via standardized interfaces such as OPC UA. The solution meets requirements for measurement system analyses (MSA) as well as for the verification of measurement and process capability.
The modular system concept is flexibly configurable and designed for different high-voltage battery types. BATTERYSPECT-3D thus supports the increasing quality requirements in electromobility and offers a scalable platform for data-based production control.
With BATTERYSPECT-3D, Automation W+R is setting a new standard for 100% inline inspection in battery production.
